The (approved driving instructor part 3) instructional ability test lasts for about one hour and is designed to assess whether you can give instruction to a pupil in driving in a worthwhile and clearly understood manner. The test is in two phases, each of which lasts about half an hour. Both phases must be passed at the same time. In each phase you will be asked to give a practical demonstration of your knowledge and ability by giving instruction to an examiner who will take on the role of a pupil. In the first phase you will be asked to give instruction suitable for a beginner or a partly trained learner driver of limited knowledge. In the second phase you will be asked to give tuition to a trained pupil who may be of about driving test standard or a qualified driver looking for further training.
This driving instructor manual lists the requirements and key learning points for the part 3 examination pre-set tests. Sample briefings are included where these are recommended for the examination, along with suggested questions with model answers which could be used. Endorsed by the Driving Instructors Association.
