The minimum driving age for driving a car in the UK is currently 17 years old. If the government ever decided to change the minimum driving age, you would almost certainly hear about it on national television well before the age was actually changed.
If we hear of any future plans to lower the driving age to 16 or it going up to the age of 18, we will update this page immediately.
The current law states that:
You can't start to drive a car until you have a valid signed provisional driving licence in your possesion and are of the minimum driving age of seventeen. ( 16 years old if you receive the higher rate of disability )
